Not the greatest idea if your son is Buddy the Elf. Actually, it’s a wonderful idea. After all, December 18 was Answer the Phone Like Buddy the Elf Day. If you don’t want them to use that cliched saying, write out a script for the kids and practice it with them before turning them over to phone-answering duty. A few to consider:
“It’s a great day at Ziffren, Brittenham, Branca, Fischer, Gilbert, Stiffelman, Cook, Johnson, Lande & Wolf, this is Amanda and I build Legos and like princesses and did you know that there’s no school today and my mom is here with four kids and my brother has a book about poo?”
“Talk to me.”
“I’m rubber and you’re glue, whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you.”
Or, just let them go freeform, answering the phone however the spirit hits them. Kids say the darndest things, no?
