Headlines from the Bitter Newsroom reminding you that most Halloween costumes will not get you laid:

• “A man who sneaked a bag of his feces into a San Diego courtroom during his home-invasion robbery trial, smeared it on his lawyer and threw it at jurors has been sentenced to 31 years in prison.” But it’s more for the robbery, burglary and assault then it is for the literal shit storm.  [The Washington Post]

• Things a defendant should never do to a judge: Give them raspberries.  It pisses them off, and you end up in jail.  Things a judge should never do to former defendants: Spank and sexually abuse them. Former Circuit Judge Herman Thomas, who was on trial for “severely” paddling the bare asses of 11 young male inmates for “sexual gratification,” was cleared of all charges yesterday.  So thrilled with the verdict, Thomas likely wanted to thank jurors with a little pat on the ass, but now three of them are disputing the verdict, saying the it was not a unanimous vote… [WKRG.com]

• Arguments are often made that the American Bar Association’s accreditation process compels schools to “favor applicants from underrepresented minority groups,” and that schools with accreditation “discourage innovative practices,” “stifle competition,” and “drive up costs for students.” But it looks that’s a bunch of malarkey.  The Government Accountability Office examined this and released a report on Monday that revealed “the move to a more hands-on, resource-intensive approach to legal education and competition among schools for higher rankings appear to be the main factors driving law school cost, while ABA accreditation requirements appear to play a minor role. Additionally, recent decreases in state funding are seen as a contributor to rising tuition at public schools.” Those damn rankings!  Oh, and the fact that federal loan limits have remained stagnant despite skyrocketing tuition doesn’t help either.  [Inside Higher Ed]

• Need clients?  Get listed.  Cost of being listed as an attorney on Lawyer.com?  Up to $60,000 per month.  But they have classy new ads.  [Forbes.com]

• One northeast attorney who brands himself as “a Philadelphia lawyer at Maine rates” is law’s biggest Phillies fan—even if he lives 506 miles from Citizens Bank Park.  Which means he’s probably SUPER obnoxious right now.  [Philly.com]

• Ralph Cioffi and Matthew Tannin, two former Bear Sterns hedge fund managers who are on trial for misleading investors about the vitality of their funds, were able to have their personal emails mentioning how they may “blow up” withheld from the jury because the judge said federal prosecutors search warrant was “too broad.” And that’s ka-blamo for the prosecution’s case.  [Dealbook @ NYT]

• Good to see that Japan hasn’t beat us in everything.  Since introducing the bar exam in 2006, this year’s pass rate in Japan was an all-time low of 27.6%.  [Asahi.com]

• Kate Gosselin isn’t the only one answering important questions people want answers to, panelists at annual meeting of Association of Corporate Counsel also allowed themselves to be raw and exposed, answering questions about what in-house counsels want from a law firm.  Gripping stuff all around.  [The National Law Journal]

• A blind 2L in Mumbai has finally forced program officials to see his solution for exam taking as acceptable.  [DNAIndia.com]
