Bitter News, 2-19-10

Headlines from the Bitter Newsroom that are driving drunk and living the dream:

Sports Illustrated bikini model and U.S. Winter Olympic team gold-medal skier Lindsey Vonn has got a bruised shin—and legal connections.  Both of her parents are lawyers.  “Her father [Alan L. Kildow] is a litigation partner with DLA Piper, and her mother is a solo practitioner in Minnesota.” But she’s estranged from her dad.  So odd to hear that about a BigLaw partner and his kids.  [The Am Law Daily]

• From Lindsey to Lindsay: Let’s talk about probation.  Who’s a better probation pupil: Lindsay Lohan or Chris Brown?  A judge said Lohan is “in full compliance,” but Chris Brown got a gold star.  “A judge on Thursday praised Chris Brown for diligence in completing the terms of his probation for last year’s attack on his then-girlfriend, Rihanna.” [Associated Press | Washington Post]

• We’ve already heard him called a one-term president by former Vice President Cheney, but what about Barak Obama as the newest Supreme Court Justice??  Might he have stones big enough to just go ahead and nominate himself?  [The Business Insider]

• There’s Law Firm 10, and then there’s a version of a real-world 10 who just so happens to be in a law firm.  Or, in this case, a law school. University of Arkansas School of Law 3L Adrielle Churchill is the new Miss Arkansas USA.  Cheer her on in May when she goes for the national title.  [Above the Law]

• Headline that dream and careers are made of: “Loathsome lawyer wins Pyrrhic victory for having sex with coked-up, drunk teenager.” [Universal HUB]

• “If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere.” Citing ol’ Blue Eyes a proper expression for Manhattan BigLaw?  Well, that’s what one laid-off lawyer in New York is telling himself these days.  [Confessions of a Laid-Off Lawyer]

Terminator: Fighting for the franchise rights is making lawyers rich.  And Latham partners Wayne Flick and Russell Sauer, Jr are the main benefactors.  [THR, Esq.]

• R. Allen Stanford to judge: Hey, let’s blow off the SEC and forget this whole $7 billion Ponzi scheme thing ever happened.  Everybody wins.  Whadda ya say?  [BusinessWeek]

• MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow dishing on Attorney General Eric Holder’s first year.  And….go.  [Main Justice]
