A contestant in a roach-eating contest who downed dozens of live bugs and worms collapsed and died shortly after winning the contest. Edward Archbold, 32, became ill shortly after the contest ended and collapsed outside the Ben Siegel Reptile Store. A statement from store owner Ben Siegel’s attorney said all the participants signed waivers “accepting responsibility for their participation in this unique and unorthodox contest.” At least one person was smart. I feel like I don’t even need to play “Guess That State” but let’s give it a try. Survey says:
Florida.
The armpit of America. You are a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. Kentucky eating sweet and sour deer looks pretty normal now. You want to know what Edward Archbold won in this contest: a python. A snake, which according to Animal Planet you can walk into any backyard in Florida and find, was the grand prize. Not to mention there were “about 30 contestants.” Thirty people thought this would be a good idea. Thirty.
At least Archbold went out on top. He is like the Walter Payton of the roach eating game. Maybe being the Joey Chestnut of live roach/worms/reptile eating contest is the pinnacle of weird eating. After you win a live cockroach eating contest life just goes downhill from there. I don’t know how since a cockroach eating hobby seems like the top of my “hobbies that should make you reconsider your life’s priorities” list. Oh well. Florida being Florida. Hopefully his giant python dies soon so he can join him up in heaven somewhere floating on a cloud waiting on that plague of locust.
