Headlines from the Bitter Newsroom that go berserk when Hamburgers and McNuggets are WRONG:

• President Obama has a new personal lawyer.  Perkins Coie partner Judith Corley.  (See here.  She seems lovely.) As for Obama’s predecessor, President Bush, one of his former top attorneys and his wife aren’t having such lovely days.  John Michael Farren is accused of trying to kill his wife at their Connecticut home by beating her with a flashlight and choking her after she served him with divorce papers.  He was charged with strangulation and attempted murder and is being held on $2 million bail.  His wife? 43-year-old year old Mary Farren, who’s a “Counsel” in Skadden’s D.C. office.  [NBC Connecticut]

• The whole minority law student issue is never black and white.  (Just see the post on gay law students having big breasts below.) Overall admissions numbers are up, but the number of black and Hispanic law students dropped.  While the “shut-out” rate for whites was only 34%, “61% of black and 46% Mexican-American applicants were rejected by every law school to which they applied.  [The New York Times]

• Grab some popcorn.  “The federal trial on the constitutionality of California’s same-sex marriage ban beginning next week will be videotaped and uploaded to a video-sharing Web site [YouTube], the presiding judge ruled Wednesday.” [ABC News]

• Only 19.75% of Am Law 100 firms are made up of equity partners.  And all non-equity partners need to be fired.  It’s just not working out.  [The National Law Journal]

• Maybe if non-equity partners actually added “value” for a change, they wouldn’t be having these kinds of problems.  [Harrison Barnes]

• Law schools been jumping the gun a little too much with summer associate recruiting.  So let’s play fantasy.  An NALP commission that’s responsible for revamping the process is imaging a world where all law firms would comply to a new system where no 2L offers would not be extended until a set date in mid-January.  Poof.  Fantasy is over.  [The Am Law Daily]

• Walk a mile in a gay male law student’s shoes, and you’ll realize that, not only are you in some fabulous shoes, but you also have big Pam Anderson-sized breasts and blonde sex hair.  “I think it extends beyond gays, but gays tend to fall into the ‘I want a guy with abs’ or ‘I want a guy with brains’ camps.” And to the later, a future lawyer is like a perky set of DD’s in a straight man’s face.  Get it?  Dennis explains it better.  [No634.com]

• Sports and the law: Two athletes got PWN3D-ed, and one lawyer is on top of the game:
—Ex-Giant Plaxico Burress had his work-release application denied.  [Chicago Tribune]
—NBA suspended Wiz guard Gilbert Arenas for packing heat, but can they fire him?  [WSJ Law Blog]
—Top South African lawyer Leslie Sedibe is the new CEO of the South African Football Association.  [Goal.com]

• The University of Buffalo law school is heading off on its second trip to Thailand to “study its unique legal culture.” Who wants to take a crack at that?  [UB Reporter]

• What was the real risk—like the really real risk—of being killed in a terrorist attack on an airplane over the last 10 years?  One in 10,408,947.  And here’s a bunch of other numbers to put it in perspective.  So cool it.  [Law is Cool]

• Regardless of the odds, the airplane terror scare a few weeks back got people all shook up and paranoid.  So this type of thing would go over even worse today than it did a month ago: A UC Davis drama teacher was arrested for referring to end-of-semester instructor evaluations as a “bomb” before dropping them on the floor and running out of the classroom.  An un-advised approach for law profs.  [Adjunct Law Prof Blog]
