Matthew Matagrano, 36, may serve 10 years in prison after repeatedly trying to sneak into jails because the inmates where “nice.” The Manhattan man is accused of sneaking into jails in four boroughs because they gave him food and made him feel important. According to police, Matagrano, who formerly served time in Rikers Island, would dress up as a Department of Corrections investigator. He would spend his time trading cigarettes with inmates and smoking with them in a common area.

War on Grandmothers

An Indonesian court has sentenced a British grandmother to death for smuggling cocaine onto the resort island of Bali. Lindsay June Sandiford, 56, was arrested and found guilty of smuggling $2.5 million dollars worth of cocaine in her suitcase, but claimed it was done because a gang who was threatening to hurt her children forced her. The verdict noted that Sandiford damaged the image of Bali as a tourism destination because of the dangerous drugs. The verdict was actually higher than the 15-year sentence prosecutors were demanding because of Ms. Sandiford’s age.

discriminated againstAn Ohio schoolteacher is suing her school district because they discriminated against her on the basis they made her teach kids. Go ahead and read that one again. Maria C. Waltherr-Willard, was a high school French and Spanish teacher but alleges the school district reassigned her to teach junior high. This was a problem for the 61-year-old teacher as she suffers from pedophobia, a fear of young children.

Jason Earl Dean, 25, has been sentenced to four years in jail and six years of probation after handcuffing himself to a co-worker in an attempt to get a date. Dean, had tried to seduce his Taco Bell co-worker for a month when he finally made his big move to convince her to go out with him. She was not impressed. The 18-year-old victim screamed until fellow fast-food employees came to her aid.

This week in the always exciting workers’ compensation law, we come across Modupe Adunni Martin, who recently was sentenced to nine months in jail for workers’ compensation fraud. In addition to her jail sentence, Martin, 29, has been ordered to serve three months probation and repay more than $79,000 in defrauded funds. Pretty serious sentencing for some WC case. Let’s see where it went wrong for Martin.

For most people, being in the courtroom awaiting your initial hearing on disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer is not the time to be clowning around. Kenneth Kraucunas is not most people. The Milwaukee man appeared in court dressed in full clown attire, including a red nose. The bailiff, who apparently hated the ball toss on Bozo, instructed the man to “take your nose off and take a seat.”

A 42-year-old South African has changed the meaning of a “fat wad” in your wallet. The man, currently unidentified, was jailed after his 18-year-old nephew’s genitals were found in his wallet. Police were investigating about the boy’s disappearance when they discovered a dismembered member in the uncle’s wallet. I guess that is the only place to keep the family jewels. After the uncle was pressed for answers, the body of the nephew was found — albeit in multiple pieces.

Coming to a Civil Procedure exam near you: James Washington has been convicted of a 1995 murder after giving what he thought was a death bed confession when he suffered a heart attack, only to survive. Washington, who was already in prison, believed he wouldn’t live to face the consequences as he told guard James Tomlinson that he killed Joyce Goodener. After surviving the heart attack, Washington tried to take back his statement, but it was too late. Washington now faces a life sentence.

Jian Feng, living in Northern China, sued his wife when he found out that she had plastic surgery prior to meeting him. It may be old news in China, but Fox News recently resurfaced the story of an odd divorce that occurred in May 2012 and since its headline, it has gone viral.
